ABU DHABI A Pakistani man is seeking help for his elder brother who is on life support at Mafraq Hospital.

Father of two Mohammad Hussain, 49, sustained serious backbone injuries when he fell off a scaffolding while doing a painting job in Bida Zayed last March.

Five months and three surgeries later, there is no improvement in his condition.

Hussain’s brother Iqbal, a blue collar worker himself, said he is desperately trying to raise money to send his brother home and fund his treatment.

No luck

“So far I haven’t had much luck. The doctors have told me that Hussain will have to be put on the plane on a stretcher. He will also need a medical assistant to accompany him on the trip. Obviously, all this will cost a lot of money, which I don’t have,” Iqbal said.

“I don’t know how much the treatment will cost and for how long Hussain will need it. I am counting on kindhearted people to come forward and help us,” he added.

Hussain and Iqbal were eking out a living by doing odd jobs in Abu Dhabi. Iqbal said he has been unable to work since the accident as most of his time is spent at the hospital. “My brother is bedridden and I cannot abandon him. We came to the UAE with big dreams but now everything is ruined. Initially, I thought that Hussain would recover and resume work, but I don’t think that is happening anytime soon. I want him to return to his wife and children, but I don’t have the financial resources for that.”

“I do not have a penny with me. I had approached the Pakistani embassy for help but to no avail,” he said.
