The chief executive's senior advisor on foreign affairs Sharifuddin Pirzada is among the delegation that Gen. Musharraf is heading to the 9th OIC summit, which is beginning in Doha tomorrow and will remain in session for three days. Also in the delegation are the federal Minister for Religious Affairs Dr. Mahmood Ghazi, Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz and the chairman export promotion bureau.
"The OIC summit is due to focus on the situation in Palestine according to the provisional agenda that the OIC secretariat has already worked out. The other important item of discussion is the Kashmir issue. Two draft resolutions to the effect will come up for discussion," senior foreign ministry officials said. These are the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the escalation of tension there.
Gen. Musharraf will hold separate meetings with the leaders of the OIC countries, and officials here confirmed that the leaders of Saudi Arabia and Iran were among the many that the chief executive will be holding talks with.
Situation in Afghanistan
"He will brief them on the latest situation in Afghanistan, as well on the current state of Pakistan's relations with India and lack of response from New Delhi on Islamabad's repeated offers for talks to resolve the main irritant the Kashmir issue," the officials in Islamabad said.
