Water and wastewater treatment company Metito has completed construction of a multi-million dirham sewage treatment facility for a housing complex at Al Faqa near Al Ain. The project was completed on behalf of the Public Works Department and handed over to the Sewerage Projects Committee of Al Ain Municipality.

The plant can handle the requirements of up to 4,000 people and can treat up to 700 cubic metres of water a day. Capacity can be doubled when new houses are built at Al Faqa and demand for sewage treatment increases.

Metito handled the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the works as well as the ongoing supervision of maintenance of the plant. The main contractor was Bricc/Bin Hamm and W.S. Atkins was the consultant.

"As with all our projects, great care was taken to ensure the project was environmentally friendly. All effluent from this works will be used for irrigation to help with the conservation of scarce resources," said Fady Juez, managing director of Metito.

This project is one of a series of sewage and treatment works the company has handled in Abu Dhabi.
