Man killed after cable holding marble was cut

Police begin investigation into death

Sharjah A 40-year-old Indian worker died on the spot after a sheet of marble fell on his head at his work place in Sharjah on Thursday afternoon, a police official told Gulf News.

The victim, identified as K.M, was working in Rathath trading company when the incident took place.

The incident happened at around 4.20pm at the company store site at Sharjah industrial Area No 13, the official said.

The police official said a crane had been lowering sheet marbles to workers who were placing them on the ground. The cable which had been tied around one of the heavy blocks was cut accidently and it fell on top of the victim killing him on the spot and injuring two others.

The injured workers, identified S.O, a 30-year-old Indian and K.H, a 27-year-old Pakistani, were standing near the victim helping him place the marble sheets in the storage area, the official said.

An ambulance rushed the injured workers to Kuwaiti Hospital for treatment, the official said. Doctors said the two men are in stable conditions.

The body of the victim was transferred to a forensic laboratory and police have launched investigation in the accident, the official said.
