"When I started the Slimway programme in January 2000 I did not focus on my target weight. I just decided that by my birthday in December I would be 50 and fabulous, not 50 and fat," says Kathy Mankassarian.

Not only did Mankassarian achieve her goal, she was declared winner of the 2001 Slimmer of the Year Award at the annual dinner held recently at The Club.

Mankassarian is one of the many women who have successfully lost weight with Slimway. The programme is easy to follow. It is not simply a diet regime. You can eat a whole range of healthy food in controlled portions which take care of all nutritional needs, and combine this with a sensible exercise programme designed to develop and maintain a healthier, more energetic way of living.

Although Mankassarian can be justifiably proud of achieving her trim look, she does admit the programme has a secret weapon. A great deal of the success is due to Maria Docherty who started the programme eight years ago in Abu Dhabi.

The aim of the programme, that slimmers should not feel hungry or have to cut out favourite treats entirely, was evident in the dinner menu which Maria specially created in collaboration with The Club chefs. Three delicious courses, including sauces and dressings, a rather wicked dessert and chocolates with coffee, showed that you need not be miserable while losing weight.
