Lebanese President Emile Lahoud yesterday hailed President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan for his continued support for Lebanon in various fields.
Lahoud made the remarks during a meeting with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Information and Culture, who inaugurated here on Tuesday the second phase of the UAE-financed mine-clearing operation in south Lebanon.
Lahoud said that the Lebanese people would always remember Sheikh Zayed's support in alleviating the pain and misery of the Lebanese at difficult times.
He hailed Sheikh Zayed's latest initiative of financing the mine clearing operation in the liberated areas of south Lebanon.
Sheikh Abdullah conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Zayed and His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to Lahoud on the occasion of Lebanon's celebrations for the second anniversary of south Lebanon's liberation from Israeli occupation.
He also briefed him on the launching of the second phase of the mine-clearing operation. Meanwhile, the two sides reviewed latest developments in the region and steps taken so far to set Arab summit decisions into motion.
Lahoud said that any international conference on the Middle East would not bring any positive results if Syria and Lebanon were absent from it. Lahoud asked Sheikh Abdullah to convey his greetings and gratitude to Sheikh Zayed.
