Dubai headquartered Jumbo Electronics is in line to open its 50th outlet in the UAE by end-2003. "The vision of our late chairman, M.R. Chhabria, is being translated into reality with Jumbo retail taking up a leadership position in the industry.

One of the fastest growing businesses in the world, expanding retail presence is where the growth lies," said Vishesh Bhatia, chief operating officer.

The existing network recorded over 1.5 million footfalls last year. Jumbo has just opened its 32nd store, which is also its 14th in Dubai. It is located in Jumeirah.

"Customers are constantly on the look out for greater convenience, higher levels of service, better selection of brands and increased information. And this is a step forward for us in this direction of customer satisfaction."

The group currently has a retail space of over 80,000 square foot in the UAE, supported by a team of 220 plus. This will be raised to 300 in due course.

Internal processes are being redesigned and staff trained to 'Think Customer'. Concepts such as the mystery shopper is also being deployed for the first time.

Said Deepak Srivastava, general manager of the retail division, "An increased presence will enable us to offer wider distribution reach and supply chain benefits to world's leading brands in consumer electronics, IT, telephony and office automation.

"As a leader in this market, we are laying the groundwork to capitalise on these opportunities through long term investments in retail expansion."
