Dubai: The latest security and safety technology went on show in Dubai on Sunday during the Intersec expo, with many Middle East product launches debuting at the event.

The three-day event was officially opened by Shaikh Mansoor Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Visitors can see live demos of many systems with experts on hand to explain the workings of the technologies.

The annual show’s 16th edition is seeing the participation of 1,210 companies from 54 countries.

Intersec is also holding conferences on its four main focus areas for 2014: Commercial Security and Information Security; Safety and Health; Fire and Rescue and Homeland Security and Policing.

Show organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt said demand for safety and security systems is growing in the UAE and region, with a 22 per cent surge in Intersec exhibitors this year.

Dubai officials and companies are using the platform to introduce the latest services, including a new automatic fire alert system that will alert the nearest fire station even if no one is at home.

Also new is the use of pilotless drones that can send live video of incidents to fire-fighters before they arrive on scene.

On Monday, the Safety Design in Buildings Conference is scheduled to discuss fire prevention and safety planning in Dubai. The event is held under the patronage of the Dubai Civil Defence.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s conference will see Dubai Police discuss mobile phone crimes in the UAE.

Officials last week said Dubai is boosting security services ahead of the Expo 2020 event that will be held in the emirate six years down the line.

“Security is the biggest issue for the Expo 2020. Though Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world, our aim is to be number one in safety, particularly keeping an eye on the future developments. Intersec is a great platform for the experts to come together and exchange ideas,” Col Humaid Mohammad Al Ansari from Dubai Police’s community services department had said.

According to international security group G4S, the total Middle East security market is estimated at $6.3 billion (Dh23.12 billion) with a growth of 10 per cent expected in the next four years.

During Intersec’s opening ceremony, Ahmad Pauwels, CEO of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, said: “The Middle East region has always been receptive to new ideas and technologies and the success of exhibitors who use Intersec as a launch pad for product launches is testament to the fact.”
