Dubai: Mohammad Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and Al Jalila Children’s Speciality Hospital (Al Jalila Children’s) have signed an affiliation agreement making Al Jalila Children’s the ‘Clinical Academic Affiliate’ of MBRU.

Al Jalila Children’s will serve as a teaching hospital for MBRU’s medical students. Both parties, which are based in Dubai, have agreed they will coordinate efforts to provide the “optimum environment for conducting an educational experience for the medical students”.

As part of the agreement, a joint ‘Clinical Academic Committee’ will be formed to oversee the implementation of clinical training.

Professor Alawi Al Shaikh Ali, dean of MBRU’s College of Medicine, said: “Partnering with a leading institution like Al Jalila Children’s is a key step towards realising MBRU’s goals of innovative health care education and research through an integrated academic health system. We look forward to working with our colleagues in Al Jalila Children’s to provide transformative learning experiences for our students as well as opportunities for collaborative research that will enhance the quality of care in our region.”

Dr Mohammad Al Awadhi, COO of Al Jalila Children’s, said: “Along with the highest standards of medical care and research, education is a main pillar that forms the identity of Al Jalila Children’s. We are very happy to be affiliated with MBRU to provide young aspiring doctors the opportunity to further expand their knowledge and develop their clinical skills. We also hope that we can instill in them our passion for excellence in patient care and innovation.”

Earlier this year, Al Jalila Children’s, in academic partnership with MBRU, launched the Al Jalila Children’s Paediatric Residency Programme, making it “the first paediatric residency programme in the UAE accredited by the Saudi Board”.

Al Jalila Children’s caters to children and adolescents up to the age of 18. Inaugurated in November 2016, it is a 200-bed facility.

MBRU is Dubai Healthcare City’s first medical university that aims to be a global hub for health care education and research at the service of humanity. MBRU offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees through its two colleges: the Hamdan Bin Mohammad College of Dental Medicine and the College of Medicine.
