Dubai:  Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, yesterday issued a resolution setting up the Dubai Film and TV Commission.

The commission's aim is to increase local production and attract international production in film and TV as outlined in the Dubai Strategy for 2015.

It will focus on promoting Dubai as a premier location for production to contribute to the tourism sector.

The main method of carrying this out will be to decrease the cost of making programmes in the emirate, including by developing an incentive scheme to attract the international market.

Location permits

Another area of focus will be to ensure the efficient and smooth processing of permits for filing in both private and public locations, to be achieved by enhancing coordination between the government and private sector.

The head of Dubai Studio City has been appointed as the chairman of the commission.

Members will also be included from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, the Department of Economic Development, Dubai Police, Dubai International Film Festival, Dubai Media Office, Emirates airline and the Jumeirah Group.

The commission will also set about attracting appropriate staff and develop competencies in science, technology and innovation.
