"We open today this wonderful building which was designed and constructed according to the latest architectural standards and I hope this university, along with its president, teaching and administrative staff, will be a success," said Sheikh Hamad in his inaugural speech.
The opening ceremony was attended by Sheikh Saleh bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah Department of Industry and Economy, Sheikh Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Minister of State for Supreme Council Affairs and Chairman of the Emiri Diwan in Ajman, Saeed Mohammed Al Raqabani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Dr Saeed Abdullah Salman, President of AUST Network, Dr Ali Al Amairah, Director of the new AUST's Fujairah Campus, and more than 300 foreign, Arab and local academic figures, experts and university instructors and a number of heads of local government departments.
After the ceremony, Sheikh Hamad and guests toured the new building and saw the facilities. Sheikh Hamad also opened the new Technosphere Centre of Excellence in the same building, in addition to the Institute of Environment and Water.
"Our good intentions have met with those of AUST, aiming to extend all possible higher educational facilities to our students. And this new campus is the first fruit of our collaboration which will be improved to help more national youth acquire knowledge to contribute to the building of their country," said Al Raqabani.
The Fujairah Campus' three-storey building was built on an area of around 6,000 square metres, on a bigger land granted by the Fujairah Government.
The campus includes eight departments: Faculty of Education and Basic Sciences, Faculty of Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Business Administrations, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Faculty of Information, Communications and Public Relations, Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation and the Faculty of Engineering.
The campus could receive between 6,500 to 7,000 students. The current building represents the first phase of the project. It has the capacity of receiving around 3,000 students, while the second phase will start within two weeks.
The campus includes 24 classrooms with a capacity of 55 seats each, in addition to two auditoriums and a multi-purpose room.
The campus has 34 laboratories belonging to the different faculties in the campus, in addition to offices for the faculty members and administrative staff.
The new campus also enjoys modern communication technologies, such as video conference system and other IT equipment for holding seminars and conferences.
The official opening ceremony of AUST's Fujairah campus was concluded with signing the partnership agreement between AUST Network and the University of Valencia in Spain.
