Last updated:

Geneva: The UAE is committed to pursuing its efforts to enhance human rights in keeping with its cultural identity while cooperating with human rights bodies, an Emirati UN official said.

Addressing the Human Rights Council in Geneva and delivering the UAE speech following a year after endorsement of the UAE report before the commission, Obaid Salem Al Za'abi, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the UN European Headquarters, said that the UAE was keen to continue working with all human rights commission mechanisms in line with its identity and the special characteristics of the country.

He briefed the commission about the country's human rights record and achievements.

The UAE has spared no efforts in joining international conventions for human rights, including the convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination among others, Al Za'abi said.

He pointed out that the UAE had recently submitted its regular report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in which it outlined its legislative and judicial measures it has taken to give effect to the convention.

It also submitted its first report to the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
