Abu Dhabi: The UAE is keen on developing its relations with Canada on the basis of mutual interests between both countries, said Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

“Bilateral relations between the UAE and Canada are strong and friendly,” Shaikh Abdullah said at a press conference with his Canadian counterpart John Baird.

He said he was satisfied with continued meetings with Canadians so as to boost ties between them, referring to the Emirati huge investments estimated at $10 billion (Dh36.7 billion) in Canada.

Shaikh Abdullah referred to the UAE’s peaceful nuclear programme as a transparent that can be applied by other countries.

Baird said both countries discussed the possibility of embarking on negotiations about nuclear cooperation.

He lauded the establishment of the UAE-Canadian Business Council as an advanced step to enhance joint cooperation in all fields.
