Sharjah housemaid packed off

Domestic help allegedly used hot iron to hurt toddler

Last updated:

Sharjah : An Asian housemaid working for an Emirati family in Sharjah has been sent home by her employer after he discovered that she burnt his two-year-old daughter on the shoulder using what he suspected to be an electric iron.

The incident allegedly happened on November 22 while the parents were at work.

When the mother returned from school, where she works as a teacher, she was surprised by the child's constant crying.

She later found that the girl's shoulder was severely burnt. According to the maid, the burn was caused when boiling water accidentally fell on her.

The child's father, A.A.S., who works at the Ministry of Labour in Dubai, insisted that the burns on his daughter's shoulder were not accidental.

Medical report

A medical report proved the father's suspicions as it stated that a hard object, heated for a long time, caused the burn.

The 25-year-old Indonesian housemaid had been working for the family for two years and had never shown any violent behaviour prior to the incident.

The child's father said that he decided not to file charges against her on humanitarian grounds, but terminated her service and sent her back home.
