Shaikh Mohammad issues law changing department’s name to become Department of Islamic Affairs, Awqaf and Charitable Activities

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, issued a law changing the name of Dubai’s Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities.

Under law No 6 of 2014, the department‘s name is changed to the Department of Islamic Affairs, Awqaf and Charitable Activities, and hence it will be responsible for Awqaf affairs in the emirate.

The department will manage and invest endowment funds, and provide consultation and advice to those who manage and oversee endowment funds. It is also tasked with encouraging philanthropists and financially capable people to launch endowment funds.

The law will take effect from the date of its issuance, and is to be published in the official gazette.
