The Dubai Executive Council met yesterday under the Chairmanship of General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, UAE Defence Minister and Chairman of the Executive Council, to explore issues and projects related to the achievement of social and economic prosperity.

Dubai's development strategies were discussed as well as ways to execute the next phase of its development strategies.

Shaikh Mohammad was briefed on the work in regard to the execution of the Mohammad Bin Rashid housing project and the mechanism of registering applicants among citizens willing to benefit from the vital project.

The project will provide 10,000 houses to young UAE nationals.

He was also briefed on the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) project, which started in October, 2002, and which will become the largest centre in the Middle East for importing and renovating electronic chips, in addition to manufacturing, designing and assembling electronic systems.

The project is expected to attract more than 50 specialised companies in that sector until 2006.

Dr Mohammad Al Zarouni, Director of the DSO, said the project would also concentrate on an educational aspect, whereby computer chip manufacturers would use software programs in their designs to subsequently create a qualitative improvement in education, taking it to a new technological revolution.
