Abu Dhabi: As many as 4,571 people registered with the Electronic Ports’ Project (e-Gate) for citizens of the UAE and the GCC, in addition to residents and individuals who have an entry visa, at Galleria Shopping Centre in Abu Dhabi in the recent days.

The project simplifies travel procedures through the country’s ports and streamlines travellers’ entry and exit.

Registration campaigns conducted in several malls in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Bani Yas have overall enrolled 35,351 people.

Major General Dr Obeid Al Kitbi, deputy commander of Abu Dhabi Police, and Major General Dr Ahmad Nasser Al Raisi, director of Central Operations, on Thursday inspected the registration process at the Galleria Shopping Centre.

The goal of the project is to facilitate speedy travel procedures when entering and leaving the country.

The e-gate system, which uses advanced registration technology, will cut the time spent going through passport control to less than 20 seconds.

Major Mohammad Al Zaabi, director of the e-Ports’ Project, said that 1,543 people were registered on the last day of the free of charge registration process.

To date, he noted, more than 500,000 people have enrolled in the project in the Abu Dhabi and Dubai international airports and other registration campaigns in shopping malls.
