Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, on Thursday received Tony Blair, senior envoy for the Quartet Committee for Mideast peace.

Blair, who arrived in the country yesterday, is visiting the UAE as part of his regional tour in quest for peace in the region.

The two officials discussed the latest developments in the Middle East in the light of concerted efforts to settle peace in the region as well as preparations for the Annapolis conference on November 27 in the United States.

Shaikh Abdullah and Blair also discussed the Arab and international efforts to make the conference a success towards achieving peace.

They also exchanged views on the donor's conference, which will be held in December in Paris. They also agreed that the resolutions of this conference should be reflected positively on standard of living for the Palestinian people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Shaikh Abdullah stressed the need for joint international efforts to seek just solution for the Palestinian cause and establish a Palestinian state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital. He lauded Blair's role, stressing UAE support to Blair's efforts.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Rashid Hareb Al Falahi, director of the Foreign Minister's office, and Edward Anthony Oakden, British ambassador to the UAE.
