Ajman: A 10-year-old Arab girl fell to her death from the balcony of her fifth-floor flat in Al Jurf area in Ajman on Tuesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Yahya Khalf Al Matroushi, Director-General of Al Hamidyah Police station , said the Arab girl died after she slipped and fell to the ground.
Witnesses saw the girl lying motionless on the ground and alerted police operations room. The girl was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said the girl was alone at home and unsupervised as her family went shopping and when they came back home around 3pm, they didn't find the girl and called the police.
Police took the family to the hospital to check if the body of the girl belonged to their daughter. The family confirmed to police that the body belonged to their daughter .
The girl's mother told police that her daughter was fasting and came tired from school. The family asked her to join them to go for shopping but she preferred to stay at home .
The body, which was shifted to the Khalifa Hospital and later to forensic laboratory, will be handed over to the parents after completing the formalities.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Matroushi appealed to parents to ensure that their children are always under supervision.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Matroushi said: "If investigation confirms negligence, the case would be referred to the court to ascertain whether or not the parents or guardians were to blame. All such cases are investigated by a public prosecutor and the nearby police station.”
