Five Ras Al Khaimah students seek course switch over lack of teachers
Five students of the Ras Al Khaimah Vocational School last week approached the Educational Zone, saying they wanted to switch to either the science or arts streams or they would leave the school.
A senior official from the zone said the school has been suffering from an acute shortage of teachers. The school has been waiting for a solution from UAE educational authorities, but nothing has been done.
The five students do not want to play with their futures and hence wanted the switch, which was turned down by the zone. They were told to go back to their school as they are not prepared for the two new streams.
The students, however, do not want to study further.
The official said the management of the school recently shut down the Electronics Department, as it did not have a single teacher. The zone and the Ministry of Education and Youth were aware of the shortage, but no action was taken.
The school has told the zone and the ministry that it needs at least seven teachers, some for the Electronics Department and the rest for other departments. The school management has told students that they will not have to study electronics till teachers are found.
School officials said students will be graduated without finishing all requirements because of the shortage.
The school officials also indicated that students will be given their certificates and the education zone and the ministry will attest them.
