Firefighters from three emirates bring ship fire under control in Umm Al Quwain

The vessel was disused; no injuries reported in the incident in Al Rafa area

Umm Al Quwain: Civil defense teams on Monday brought under control a fire on a disused ship slated to be scrapped in Umm Al Quwain.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred in Al Rafa area. Civil defense teams from Umm Al Quwain, supported by those in neighbouring Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Sharjah, managed to bring the blaze under control.

Colonel Dr Salem Hamad Bin Hamdah, Director of the Civil Defense Department in Umm Al Quwain, said that the Operations Room received a report at 10.15 am on Monday, saying that a fire had erupted on a ship at a wharf in Al Rafa area, and immediately a civil defense team was sent to Al Rafa, reaching in five minutes.

Civil defense teams were then also called in from Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman and Sharjah, who all succeeded in carrying out operations for evacuation and firefighting.

Col Dr Hamdah said the achievement of the mission resulted from the cooperation with Umm Al Quwain Police, National Ambulance and Coast Guard In Umm Al Quwain.
