Dubai: As temperatures soar across the UAE, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, is urging customers to adopt smart and sustainable cooling practices to reduce power consumption and monthly bills.

Under the slogan ‘Set and Save at 24°C’, the annual summer campaign aims to increase awareness and promote energy efficiency among both residential and commercial users.
“We recognise the vital role of awareness in encouraging responsible energy consumption,” said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

8 practical energy-saving tips

Now in its 12th year, the summer initiative focuses on educating the public on how small changes in behaviour can lead to meaningful energy savings.
Empower shared a set of eight practical steps households and businesses can implement immediately:

Set the AC thermostat at 24 degrees Celsius in auto mode – The optimal temperature setting that balances comfort and efficiency.

Keep window curtains closed – Especially during the day to block out direct sunlight and reduce indoor heat.

Seal door and window cracks – Prevent cooled air from escaping and hot air from entering.

Tint glass doors and windows – Reduce solar heat gain by shading large glass areas.

Check your AC thermostat regularly – Ensure it is functioning properly for consistent cooling.

Keep the AC filter clean – A clean filter improves air quality and AC efficiency.

Reduce indoor heat sources – Turn off unnecessary lights and avoid heat-generating appliances during peak hours.

Do periodic house maintenance – Regular upkeep ensures cooling systems perform at peak efficiency.

Promoting smart energy use

“These efforts not only support national sustainability goals but also help individuals optimise their district cooling consumption and reduce their monthly bills,” Shafar added.

The campaign, according to Empower, is part of a broader effort to align with the UAE’s sustainability strategies by promoting smarter energy use and improving environmental awareness. Following these guidelines, individuals stand to benefit from reduced cooling costs, greater comfort and a smaller carbon footprint.
