Over 3,330 people worked in record time to keep city shining, says municipality
Dubai: Millions attended the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dubai to ring in 2025. However, just hours after the mega festivities across the city and fireworks at 36 locations including Burj Khalifa, Dubai is spick and span on Wednesday morning.
How was this made possible?
It’s the result of the hard work of more than 3,330 people who toiled to clean up the city while others partied and slept after the fun was over. Dubai Municipality on Wednesday morning announced that its team successfully carried out the cleaning operations in record time.
Also on Wednesday morning, Maryam Majid bin Theneya, Second Deputy Speaker of the Federal National Council, took to X to share a video of a “sparkling clean” Downtown Dubai.
The municipality had implemented a comprehensive plan for cleaning operations and waste removal following New Year’s celebrations. The plan involved securing the sites of fireworks and celebrations including public beaches and a number of other locations in Dubai that have become the focus of the world’s attention.
“A dedicated team successfully carried out these efforts in record time, ensuring Dubai remains clean and sustainable after the festivities,” the municipality stated on social media.
More than 255 volunteers joined 2,534 “cleaning engineers”, 242 supervisory and inspection staff, 299 engineers and supervisors in completing the herculean task. They covered over 366 locations.
A total of 246 machines and vehicles and 500 additional waste storage units were used for the cleaning operations at different sites.
“On the morning of January 1, 2025, in Downtown Dubai, where hundreds of thousands had gathered to celebrate the New Year. The scene just hours after the event is pristine, with the area sparkling clean and at its finest,” reads the English translation of Maryam’s post in Arabic.
The morning video showed the clean surroundings of Burj Khalifa, where a handful of people were adding the final touch up after the rapid cleaning services at night.
She concluded the message with a heart emoji, dedicating it to Dar Bou Rashid, referring to Dubai as the place ruled by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
