Fujairah and Kalba hit by another oil spill

Fujairah: The latest in a serious of oil spill has hit parts of Fujairah city before arriving at Kalba coast on Monday evening.

The spill was initially spotted early on Monday morning by Coast Guards patrolling in the open sea.

As per routine, a report was sent out to local authorities informing them of the approaching pollution hazard.

The spill arrived on the East Coast by Monday evening and was still washing up on the shores on Tuesday, giving out a strong odour.

Most oil spills so far this year have washed up higher up on the coast near Dibba.

Local authorities accuse passing ships of causing the spills by illegally discharging diesel fuel and crude oil into the open seas.

They have continually called for more effective methods of monitoring the activities of the ships in what is one of the busiest ship routes in the world.
