Dubai: Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE) has taken the lead in creating a collaborative Green Jobs programme to educate and transfer the necessary knowledge to the public when trying to establish a green economy.
With the support of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), Dubai Green Economy Partnership (Dubai GEP), Allen & York, DSOA and Chalhoub, Dubai Carbon can shed light on specific education required in order to inform people about the programme offered. The panel, which took place in Raffles Hotel on in Dubai on December 18, discussed an array of topics concerning the implementation of a green economy.
The goal behind the discussion panel is to sustain the future of Dubai and encourage business sectors to cultivate green practices. According to Waleed Salman, Chairman of Dubai Carbon,
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has concentrated on promoting renewable energy through rational use of water and energy.
DEWA has taken the initiative to create financially viable solutions in the solar industry as one of many development methods. Methods revolving around saving energy were discussed in panels to offer a better standing of power saving solutions.
“The recent announcement of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy endorsing the carbon abatement strategy development in collaboration with Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence will enable the government department to reduce the carbon emission by 16 per cent, another commitment from the government of Dubai,” said Salman.
Negawatt power, which represents an amount of energy measured in watts, is the name used to refer to power saved. The Negawatt, which is the energy saved, is a direct result of energy efficiency and energy conservation. With vigorous green initiatives, Negawatt power is achievable given the transition to a green economy in Dubai has already commenced.
Salman said that with various initiatives planned for the near future, Dubai will be among some of the leading cities fuelling a positive transition.
“Dubai is leading the change to sustainable economy in the region,” said Fahad Al Gergawi, Secretary General of Dubai Green Economy Partnership, “As stated in the Green Economy for a Sustainable Government launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the strategy is to promote low carbon economy growth and an investment friendly financial climate.”
Though Dubai leads the change in the region, Al Gergawi recognises that with implementing a smooth transition to a green economy comes the barrier of filling the offered Green Jobs. This is due to the lack of information provided for green occupational skills. He emphasises on the importance of initiatives, such as the green jobs recently launched, which serve as a solution for such barriers.
He adds that the green jobs programme is paramount to achieve optimum human resource collaboration and green economy allocation when trying to align with the UAE’s vision for 2021.
