Teaching licences in the UAE are valid for a period of two to five years
Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Education has outlined seven key reasons that could lead to the revocation of a teacher’s professional licence, impacting educators across all types of schools and curricula in the country.
The move aims to ensure strict adherence to licensing regulations, uphold educational standards, and prevent misconduct in the educational sector.
Teaching licences in the UAE are valid for a period of two to five years, depending on the teacher’s experience and exam results.
Teachers must apply for renewal before their licences expire, and may be required to take additional exams for renewal.
In a statement, the Ministry’s Professional Licencing Department explained the grounds on which a teaching license could be permanently revoked.
These include:
Incompetence or failure to pass required evaluations: Teachers who fail to pass necessary competency assessments.
Obtaining the license illegally: Fraudulent acquisition of a teaching license.
Termination due to violations: Dismissal from a teaching position due to administrative violations or a court ruling.
Suspended or revoked license from another country: Holding a teaching license that has been revoked or suspended by a foreign government.
Exam fraud: Involvement in cheating or leaking examination content.
Document forgery: Falsifying documents to obtain or renew a teaching license.
Ethical violations: Behaviors that harm the integrity of the teaching profession.
Once a teacher’s license is revoked, they will be prohibited from obtaining another license or working in the UAE education sector. The Ministry also maintains a comprehensive electronic record of all revocations, including the affected license number and its status.
