Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) are implementing the second phase of the “Work Experience” programme which provides Emirati secondary school students with training opportunities in the private sector.

The programme aims to equip students with practical skills with real-world training experiences in private sector institutions.

The second phase of the programme will take place from March 24 to April 11, allowing students to gain practical experience and training in private sector companies.

To participate in the programme, students must meet seven registration requirements. They must be a UAE citizen, aged between 15 and 18 years, and having a cumulative GPA of 80 per cent or higher. Students must also obtain written approval from their parents and provide a certificate of non-objection from their school.

The Ministry of Education has directed government and private schools to raise students’ awareness about the programme’s importance and encourage them to participate. The programme provides students with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in diverse work environments, helping them build their professional skills and enhance their readiness to enter the job market in the future.

3,400 training opportunities

The ministry announced its successful cooperation with relevant partners in the programme for Emirati students. The programme exceeded its experimental phase targets for the 2023-2024 academic year, providing over 3,400 training opportunities for students across more than 500 entities, surpassing the initial goal of 350 entities.

Since the programme’s experimental phase launch in September 2023, 1,780 students have enrolled in it, and it will now transition to its final, comprehensive five-year phase. This aims to support Emirati students’ integration into the private sector’s skilled workforce by providing practical experience throughout their academic journey, from Grade 9 to the final year of higher education.

MOHRE is the general coordinator for the programme, in collaboration with its partners at the Ministry of Education, Emirates School Foundation, Higher Colleges of Technology, Abu Dhabi Center for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Applied Technology High Schools, with the support of the Emirates Council for Competitiveness and Productivity NAFIS.
