Emirates Red Crescent begins first phase in Senegal, targeting 20,000 children
Dubai: Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) on Monday started distributing clothes to underprivileged children in Senegal as part of the Dress 1 million campaign launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The first phase of ERC’s humanitarian effort in different Senegal cities targets 20,000 children.
Dr Mohammad Atiq Al Falahi, Secretary General of the ERC, said the campaign has been able to reach its target in a record time, thanks to the directives of Shaikh Mohammad.
On Sunday, Shaikh Mohammad ordered increasing the number of the campaign’s beneficiaries.
Dr Al Falahi hailed these directives as another initiative to encourage involved agencies to double their efforts and help to deliver clothes to underprivileged children around the globe.
The campaign is part of a series of humanitarian initiatives launched by Shaikh Mohammad over the years. The campaign aims to clothe one million underprivileged children.
Since the campaign’s launch, a number of institutions in the public and private sector have supported the campaign with donations.
Arabtec Holding on Monday donated Dh5 million in support of the Dress 1 million campaign. The donation will provide clothing to 125,000 children around the world.
Etisalat Group encouraged its employees to support the initiative.
Abdul Aziz Ahmad Saleh Al Sawaleh, Chief Human Resources Officer at Etisalat Group, said, “Because of the UAE’s visionary leadership and generous citizens and residents, the country will continue to set examples in various fields. It is a core mission of Etisalat Group to support communities and initiatives that enhance the quality of people’s lives.”
Etisalat earlier donated Dh3 million to the campaign to provide clothes for 75,000 children.
The Ministry of Federal National Council Affairs has also urged its employees to contribute to the campaign.
Tarek Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the ministry, said that the initiative represented the unlimited gift of giving of Shaikh Mohammad, who is a pioneer in launching humanitarian initiatives that contribute to help the needy and alleviate their suffering, especially during Ramadan, and embodies the true meaning of generosity.
