Ajman: Police here arrested a young Asian man on Thursday for allegedly going on a smashing spree and damaging the rear windows of six vehicles parked outside the Ajman police headquarters.

Col Abdul Azizi Al Shamisi, Director of Ajman Police operations, said car wash workers reported the incident to the police after they witnessed the suspect, identified A.A.M., 19, holding a stone and breaking the rear glass windows of the vehicles in the parking lot.

The damaged vehicles included a two Nissan Patrols, two Lexuses, a Kia and a Chevrolet Camaro — owned by Ajman Police staff and customers.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect, who worked at electrical supplies shops, came to the country a month earlier.

The suspect told police he did the bizarre act deliberately to get himself arrested and deported as he wanted to return to his country.

Police said that the suspect’s sponsor told them that the suspect suffered from some psychological disorder and was intermittently absent from work. The sponsor added he found it difficult to control the suspect’s behaviour.

Ajman Police transferred the case to the public prosecution and presented the suspect to a psychiatrist to diagnose his mental condition.
