Sharjah: Police arrested an Arab woman on Saturday after she tried to jump from the helicopter landing pad of the Aryana Hotel in Sharjah.
The Saudi woman went to the helipad in a bid to commit suicide.
After three hours of negotiations a policeman managed to pull her away.
Sharjah officials said that the woman was not suffering from any mental or psychological problem. She was taken to Al Kuwaiti hospital.
The hospital report confirmed that the woman was in a stable condition and did not have any psychological problems.
Colonel Omar Abdullah Al Suwaidi, head of police station centres in Sharjah, said that police moved to the scene when they learnt about the situation.
Police brought a psychologist to calm the woman down and convince her to abandon the idea of committing suicide, but the woman refused to listen and insisted on ending her life.
The police then came up with a plan to rescue her. They sent a policeman to her and gave her a bottle of water as it was hot and they wanted to calm her down. She was then approached for a second time with more water and this time they managed to pull her to safety. She was taken to Al Buhairah police station for interrogation.
A hotel official told Gulf News that she was a university student in Sharjah. She came to the hotel at 9am and was there till 11am.
Suspicious
She was sitting in the lobby drinking coffee. It was learnt that a surveillance camera in the lobby was monitoring her suspicious behaviour. She was looking for the emergency exit on the 28th floor of the hotel, it was later learnt.
Hotel staff said that the emergency door was closed and they did not know how she got up there.
Hotel staff reported the situation to police at 10.11am, and within ten minutes officers were at the scene. Gulf News learnt that the woman had rent-related problems.
