Mother washed her daughters, hugged them and kissed them goodbye one last time
Dubai: The two Pakistani sisters who were strangled by their father earlier this month were buried in Al Quoz cemetery in Dubai on Tuesday, according to police.
The body of the father who committed suicide after killing his daughters, aged three and seven, will be taken to his home town in Lahore in Pakistan as soon as the repatriation formalities are completed.
The friend said that the family of the 40-year-old man, identified as Khurram Iqbal, wanted him to be buried in his homeland.
Relatives of the family said that the 36-year-old mother, also from Lahore, who was not at home when the tragic murder-suicide took place, washed her daughters in preparation for their burial.
She had a last chance to hug her sweet daughters and kiss them goodbye before they were laid to rest.
Gulf News on December 3 broke the story about the man who strangled his two daughters in a bathroom and then committed suicide by drowning himself in the swimming pool. The crime scene was the luxurious compound were the family lived in the Al Waha community behind Global Village.
Police have ruled out homicide in the man’s death. Police say it appears the man had family problems. Investigators have questioned family members and the housemaid, while an autopsy confirmed that the girls had been strangled.
Sources said the Pakistani mother found the bodies of her daughters when she returned home at 1am after attending a concert at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. She contacted police after she could not find her husband. His body was found in the swimming pool at around 6am that morning.
Iqbal, a director of operations for a multinational company in Dubai, was at home with his brother-in-law on night of the incident.
Police said that they did not hold the passport of the mother or her brother.
Relatives said that Iqbal’s brother came to Dubai from Pakistan in order to repatriate the body.
“[A] No Objection Letter for transferring the body has been issued by police and the body will be flown soon to Pakistan,” the brother said.
A friend of the family also told Gulf News that the two girls had been buried.
