Sharjah: A male nurse in Al Qassimi Hospital was severely beaten up by five young men after their relative died at the hospital as they believed the nurse was laughing at them, an official at Sharjah Police told Gulf News.
The male nurse, an Indian in his 30s, was described by police as having a smiling face.
The assault took place on Saturday night at the hospital when a female relative of a deceased fell on the ground due to shock at the death.
The male nurse did not approach the woman to offer help.
Meanwhile, five young Emirati men attacked the male nurse as they thought that he was laughing at the woman falling. The victim was admitted to the surgical department as he suffered bruises. Police have registered a case against the five Emiratis at Al Hira police station.
Dr Arif Al Nooryani, Executive Director and Consultant Cardiologist at the hospital, confirmed the incident. He said that the nurse has filed a case against those who assaulted him.
The hospital management has examined the surveillance camera at the hospital, which recorded the incident, and handed the footage to the police .
