Security trial in UAE adjourned until December

Abu Dhabi: The case involving eight suspects, seven Emiratis and an Afghan, facing security-related charges filed by the State Security Public Prosecution, was adjourned until December 21 for the defence lawyers to present their case.

The defendants were earlier granted bail by the Federal Supreme Court.

A hearing was held in camera at the Federal Supreme Court, presided over by Chief Justice Bashir Al Zaitoun on Monday.

The defendants were questioned by Justice Al Zaitoun who ordered the closed hearing in his office, advocate Ali Ahmad Al Mannae'i, defending three of the suspects, told Gulf News after the hearing.

Al Mannae'i added the prosecution admitted there was no evidence and the charges were based on confessions of the suspects and testimonies of the victims.

"The suspects told the court they had given confessions under duress and the victims testified before the court and categorically denied the incidents on which the prosecution founded the charges," said Al Mannae'i.

The prosecution accused the defendants of committing crimes related to state security.
