Mohammad Raziuddin called his father that fateful Saturday and said: "You will not have an elder son any more."

Taqiuddin, Raziuddin's brother, told Gulf News he received a phone call from India from his father saying that his brother had called with the ominous message.

"My father was worried about my brother and his family. It was early in the morning. My father phoned me and he asked me to check on my brother.

"I was with Raziuddin on Friday night. He was fine and I did not suspect anything. On Saturday when I received the call from my father I went to see him at about 3pm. I knocked on the door several times, but no one answered.

"I asked the watchman to open the door, but he said that he did not have a duplicate key. He asked me to inform the police. I informed Al Buhaira police station and officers rushed to the scene.

"I was not allowed to enter the place. I did not see anything at all. Police told me what had happened."

Taqiuddin said his brother was planning to visit his family in India and he even had bought gifts for his parents.

"My brother started suffering from psychological problems three years ago. He went to a clinic in Sharjah and in India. Raziuddin was well educated, he was our elder brother, we are five brothers. He has been in the UAE since 1986. He was doing well financially and he used to help people in need. We did not suspect that he will do such a thing."

The Indian consulate yesterday told Gulf News that a power of attorney has been issued by the father to conduct the burial in the UAE.

A consulate source said the authorities are processing death certificates.

"We have received a message from the family that they won't be able to come to the UAE and hence the burial will be here. The consulate will register the deaths."

According to the source, the consulate is keeping in touch with the local authorities in Sharjah and Raziuddin's brother.

"We spoke to the brother. He told us that Mohammad Raziuddin was close to his family," the source said.
