Defendant told court he mistakenly touched girl without having any bad intention
Dubai: A mechanic, who groped a girl while she was watching an entertainment show at a mall in Dubai, has been jailed for six months.
The 55-year-old Pakistani mechanic molested the Egyptian girl [whose age remained undisclosed] when she was present with her parents at the mall in February.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the defendant of molesting the girl despite having entered an innocent plea.
“I touched her by mistake. I did not mean to molest her,” he told the court.
Presiding judge Fahd Al Shamsi said the accused will be deported after serving his jail term.
The girl’s father said he was filling a form out at a kiosk when his daughter came up to him and she was crying.
“She cried dearly. When I asked her what happened, she said the defendant groped her back while watching a show. I took her to that spot and she pointed at the defendant. When I confronted him, the defendant denied molesting my daughter. I called up the mall’s security guards. The defendant was taken to a security office before police came and arrested him. The CCTV cameras showed the defendant molesting my girl…,” claimed the father.
The girl was cited as saying that the defendant drew his body close to hers from the back and molested her.
She claimed that she pushed his hand away and told her father what happened.
The accused was cited confessing to prosecutors that he molested the girl.
The primary ruling remains subject to appeal within 13 days.
