“He couldn’t pay the divorce alimony... He said killing her was the only option,” accomplice says
DUBAI An Indian obtained the help of a Pakistani friend to kill his wife and then dump her body near a farm, a Dubai Court heard.
Both were sentenced to death on Wednesday, though the 23-year-old Indian, A.B., remains at large. It is believed he fled the country shortly after the murder.
The crime was discovered by a Bangladeshi labourer who found the woman’s body in a garbage bag on the Dubai-Al Ain road.
Horrific details emerged after investigations led to the arrest of the 28-year-Pakistani R.A.
Recalling the March 11, 2013 evening incident, R.A. said: “A.B. called me to his house and asked me to drop him at the airport. He was acting odd when I got there. He said he had killed his wife and that her body was lying in the bedroom. When I went there, I found that she was still alive. So I strangulated her.
According to court records, the duo then dumped the woman’s body near a farm on the Dubai-Al Ain road. Later R.A. dropped A.B. at the airport. “He gave me a gold bracelet and asked me to buy an air ticket. They were going through marital problems. He couldn’t divorce her as he couldn’t afford to pay the alimony,” R.A. told police.
He was not present in court when the sentence was announced.
