Dubai supervisor convicted of beating subordinate

Receives suspended jail term as plumber is acquitted of same charge

Dubai: A Filipino supervisor has received a one-month suspended jail term after a court convicted him of beating a Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) superintendent and injuring him.

The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the supervisor, R.L., of causing five per cent permanent disability to the 53-year-old Egyptian superintendent after beating him.

Presiding Judge Al Saeed Mohammad Barghout, who pronounced yesterday's judgment, suspended R.L.'s sentence for three years on condition that he does not repeat the crime.

Meanwhile, the court cleared another Filipino plumber, E.J., of the same charge for lack of evidence.

Medical reports confirmed that the victim sustained disability due to the injuries he sustained.
