Driver in hit-and-run case, repair shop owner arrested in Dubai

A driver who was involved in a hit-and-run accident in Dubai, causing severe injuries to several people, has been arrested, the Dubai Traffic Prosecution said.

The driver did not stop at the scene nor provide any necessary assistance or first aid, the authority added.

The owner of a repair shop that repaired the vehicle involved in the accident without obtaining a proper permit from the traffic authority has also been arrested.

Counselor Salah Bu Farousha Al Falasi, Senior Advocate General and Head of the Traffic Prosecution, urged all drivers to exercise extreme caution while driving on the roads and to adhere to all legal and safe driving requirements and rules so as to preserve the safety of road users as well as public and private property.

He urged drivers not to flee the site of an accident, unless it’s absolutely necessary. He also stressed that the accident should be reported to the authorities within three hours.
