Dubai: A new book on security challenges by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Dubai Police Chief, has been released by the Decision-Making Support Centre.

The book titled Security Opinions and Participation of 270 pages in 12 chapters covers some of the important experiences in this field.

From drugs to juvenile delinquency, traffic, satellite television channels, bad debts and serious crime to human rights, the book aims to document experiences, expertise and visions, Lt Gen Dahi told Gulf News.

"We have succeeded in achieving very low serious crime and traffic fatalities indicators, and the book documents this experience," he said.

Although the book will not be available for sale to the general public, these indices and other statistics will be announced soon, Lt Gen Dahi added.

Music channels

The issue of satellite television channels, commercial greed and social benefit are discussed in the second chapter of the book, with special focus on the messages conveyed through music channels, and the reason why young people exchange messages on these channels.

The third chapter deals with crimes caused by the large number of expatriates in the UAE such as drug abuse, prostitution, infiltration, impersonation, sorcery, and domestic workers' crimes, while the fourth chapter focuses on police's role in combating narcotics through awareness, rehabilitation and support.

In the sixth chapter, the Dubai Police Chief discusses demographic growth and how it affects future demands and security considerations.

Traffic improvement and security and Dubai Police's experience in cutting down road accidents and deaths take centre stage in the eighth chapter.

Being the first police body in the region to introduce a human rights department, Dubai Police's experience in striking a balance between the rights of individuals and the society in a multinational community was also discussed.
