Dubai: An Australian man has made a plea for information about his nephew, who he has not heard from for more than 18 months.

Brisbane resident Trevor Raps is trying to track down 29-year-old Harold Byron Raps, who moved to Dubai more than two years ago.

Harold was last in contact with his uncle in April 2006 and since then Trevor's attempts to get in touch with him have been unsuccessful.

Trevor told Gulf News by telephone from Australia that he would like to hear from Harold just so that he knows that he is alright.

"He used to get in touch every three months or every six months and it's weighing a little bit on my mind [that he has not been in touch]," said Trevor, 54, a former aircraft fitter.

"He is a fairly quiet sort of fellow and to look at he is a fairly typical Eurasian boy. He is a good-looking boy."

Record

Harold, whose mother June comes from Singapore and who was born in the South-East Asian city state, holds both Australian and Singaporean nationalities. He has one sister called Azrina. Harold's father David, who was Trevor's brother, died of a brain tumour in 2002.

Trevor says he still has a record on his phone of a text message from Harold sent in April 2006, and then a few days later Harold called his uncle. "Several months after he called I sent a couple of SMSs and tried to call, but was unable to establish contact," Trevor said.

When he first came to Dubai, Trevor thinks Harold, who is a Muslim, was working in the hospitality industry although he is not sure what sector he has been employed in since then. In the past he has undertaken training to become a pilot.

Gulf News contacted Dubai Police and they said their records showed that Harold was in the UAE.
