Dubai:  A 44-year-old aircraft cleaner landed in trouble after allegedly stealing money from a wallet she found on an aircraft at the Dubai airport.

The defendant, V.S., who appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance on Wednesday, was charged by the Public Prosecution with stealing the money.

On June 6, the defendant was cleaning an aircraft at 10pm when she found a black wallet on the floor and, instead of reporting the incident, she allegedly opened the wallet and found that it contained an amount of money in various currencies.

V.S. took some of the money, a total of $200 (Dh734.45) and 4,250 Syrian pounds (about Dh327) and hid the money in her sock before placing the wallet where she found it and informing her supervisor.

She then left the aircraft. Half an hour later a policewoman working for the Airport Security Department searched her and found the money in her possession. The Emirati policewoman, K.A., who conducted the personal inspection, testified that on the day of the incident she was assigned to inspect seven female cleaners who were working on one of the aircraft.

K.A. said she asked the suspect to take off her shoes and socks and found the money hidden in her sock. The policewoman then handed over the suspect and the seized money to the CID members.

The suspect, who has been working in the same job since she first arrived in the UAE two years ago, pleaded guilty.
