Dubai: Dubai Police honoured an Emirati boy who made his father alert the police after he found a small stack of cash hidden under an ATM, an official said.

Abdullah, 7, was with his father, Nasir Al Ali, who wanted to deposit money in a local bank in Al Rafaa area, when he found Dh5,400 under the ATM.

Brigadier Ahmad Bin Galita, director of Al Rafaa police station, said that on April 1, Abdullah was pulling his father’s kandora and pointing under the ATM saying there was something.

“The father was busy depositing money in the ATM and didn’t care at the beginning. The boy refused to leave the spot and pointed to the money under the ATM,” Brig Bin Galita told Gulf News.

The father used the flashlight on his phone to look what was under the ATM and saw the cash.

He called Dubai Police who arrived and collected the money.

Police have not determined the source of the money.

“What Abdullah did was clever and showed that he has a great sense of responsibility and has been raised in a proper way to be a positive member of the society. He is an honest boy and all of us are proud of him and thankful to his family,” Brig Bin Galita said.

Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, ordered officers to honour young Abdullah at Al Rafaa police station and his father for the boy’s honesty.

“Dubai Police’s community initiatives encourage the public to assist law enforcement officers in combating crimes and have a safer and better society.”
