Body of missing free-diver found off Dubai coast

Dubai: Fishermen have found the body of the 35-year-old diver who went missing in international waters off the coast of Dubai on January 1, according to Dubai police.

Police said the body of the Algerian diver was found at around 1pm on Saturday.

The body was transferred to the forensic department at Dubai police.

Police said the diver’s body was found at 22 nautical miles from the Palm project in Jebel Ali.

Police said that when Adel Ait Ghazala died people who were accompanying him told police that he was free-diving and not using an oxygen tank or any means of safety equipment. He was also was wearing a wetsuit that weighed 6kg. Police said the body was found in the same area where he went missing.

The diver’s wife, Rana Galeb, said she was on the boat when her husband, went free-diving with two other friends, wearing only a wetsuit, flippers, goggles and a specialist watch.

The couple was visiting Dubai for the New Year.

The mother of Ghazala, his brother, his wife and friends were informed yesterday about the body and they went to the police forensic laboratory for identification. Police said an autopsy will be carried out.
