DUBAI: Residents of Al Barsha South are desperate for better public transport facilities in their area as they claim they have to travel a fair distance to catch a bus or the Metro. “The nearest bus stop is in Tecom and Metro station in Dubai Internet City. It takes me 45 minutes to commute from my house to the Metro.

It is also very expensive as I end up spending Dh35 for a taxi ride one way,” said Pranay Mathur, a 20-year-old student from Villa Lantanain Al Barsha South. Sabitri Kanwar, a housemaid in the same community, said, “I like to meet up with my friends in old Dubai on Fridays. But it is such a problem going there. My madam drops me to Nakheel Metro station in the morning. But in the evening, I have to get back home on my own in a taxi. I spend almost Dh300 a month on taxis. It is a very huge amount for me.”

Egyptian expatriate Marwa Ahmad , also from Al Barsha South, said: “Taxis take a lot of time to reach us and we cannot always rely on them. It is a pity we do not have easy access to the fantastic bus and Metro services of Dubai.”

To a query by XPRESS, the Dubai Road Transport Authority (RTA) said currently, two buses - J01 and F32 - serve the community to and from the Metro stations.
