More than 18,000 have embraced Islam since the Centre’s establishment in 1993
Dubai: A total of 560 people have embraced Islam in early 2013 at the Dar Al Ber Society’s Islamic Information Centre.
Rashid Al Junaibi, Director of the Centre located at Al Dhiyafa Street in Dubai, said the Centre helps new Muslims by providing them with lectures and lessons that are presented in both Arabic and other languages.
“More than 18,000 have embraced Islam since the Centre’s establishment in 1993. In 2009, 1,059 people embraced Islam. The figure increased to 1,500 in 2010 and in 2011, 1,350 embraced Islam. The figure for 2012 was 1,907. In a year, more than 50,000 people from different nationalities visit the centre to learn more about Islam,” Al Junaibi said.
“The Centre’s efforts have been recognised by more than 10 governmental and private bodies in the UAE,” Al Junaibi added.
Al Junaibi said these lectures are carried out as part of an annual programme and during Ramadan through cooperation with other social institutions.
The centre has more than 10 preachers from various nationalities, who either work in the centre or are volunteers that help tutor new Muslims about the tolerance of Islam, the religion’s principles, and correct teachings of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), he said.
More than 10,000 booklets and CDs that explain the teachings of Islam, including translations of the Quran and teachings of sunnahs have been distributed by the Centre. The Centre also organises sessions for teaching the Arabic language to ease the process of reading the Quran for non-Arabic speakers, as well as sessions to teach people about the pillars of Islam and how to pray.
