30 girls rescued as school bag catches fire

Tablet or mobile phone battery suspected to be the cause of fire

Ras Al Khaimah: More than 30 girls were evacuated from a school classroom in Al Rams area of Ras Al Khaimah after a student’s bag caught fire, police said on Monday.

The fire broke out at Alufoq Primary School for girls just after classes began on Monday.

The students were evacuated from their classroom located on the second floor.

Firefighters immediately moved to the spot after receiving a report at around 8am and the fire was put out shortly.

No injuries were reported.

The school bag that caught fire belonged to a grade 6 student. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Civil Defence suspects the fire started from the battery of a tablet or mobile phone.
