October 21, 1985: Emirates Airlines' first flight to Karachi from Dubai. The launch of Emirates came following the signing of the lease agreement with the arrival of one of the two aircraft, a Boeing 737-300, at the Dubai International Airport, leased from PIA. Sheikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the airline, said then that the two aircraft would help launch Emirates' commercial operations. Initially, the airline operated services to Karachi, Bombay and Delhi.
