Dubai: Dubai-based Alison Muirhead (Scot) shot a first round 75 in the $1 million Aramco Team Series – New York yesterday on the Ladies European Tour (LET).

In the Individual event Muirhead finished tied 53rd and in the Team event, playing alongside World Number One and 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist Nelly Korda (USA) they lie tied 8th along with fellow professional Ursula Wikstrom (Finland) and amateur Jeffrey Capazzi.

Short holes

Muirhead had nines of 39 and 36 over the Par 72, 6506 yards long course at Glen Oaks Club highlighted by two birdie 2’s on the short holes at 15 and 17, both assisting the Team score.

The 54-hole tournament has a prizefund breakdown of $800,000 for the Team event and $200,000 for the Individual event.

In the Team event, Team Strom leads after round 1 with a Team score of -18 with the Team of Linnea Strom (Swe), Jenny Haglund (Swe) and Lucie Malchirand (Fr) and amateur Cho Min Thant.

Captain Strom managed an individual score of 79 and selected well with her Draft pick of Haglund with a one under Par score of 71 and their random pick of Malchirand who shot a 3 under Par 69 with five contributions from the amateur.

Seven birdies

After the first round, the Individual event is led by Sophia Popov (Ger) with a 7 under par 65 with seven birdies and no bogies for the 2020 Women’s British Open champion. Popov has a three-shot lead from six players including: Anna Nordquist (Swe), Pauline Roussin Bouchard (Fr), Danielle Kang (USA) and Bronte Law (Eng).

The second round takes place today with the leaders out last in Team format and the final round tomorrow.

Muirhead tees off in Team Korda at 11.20 am (local New York time) with the leaders out last at 12.42 pm.
