India Tennis star Sania Miza’s ex-husband resigns to prioritise personal commitments
Dubai: Former Pakistan cricket captain and celebrated all-rounder Shoaib Malik has stepped down from his position as Domestic Cricket Mentor with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB.
In a heartfelt announcement shared on social media platform X, Malik, ex-husband of India tennis star Sania Mirza, revealed that he had formally submitted his resignation to the PCB two weeks ago, citing the growing demands of his personal and professional life.
“This was not an easy choice, but after reflecting on my commitments, I realised that juggling multiple responsibilities would prevent me from giving my best — both to Pakistan cricket and to my other priorities,” Malik wrote.
Despite his resignation, Malik assured the board that he will fulfill his contractual duties, offering PCB adequate time to name a successor before the next domestic season kicks off.
Expressing appreciation for those he worked alongside, Malik extended his gratitude to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the executive team, director of Champions Events Wahab Riaz, the Stallion coaching staff, and the players who embraced his mentorship.
Shoaib Malik’s impact on Pakistani cricket spans over two decades. Since debuting in 1999 as an off-break bowler, he evolved into a reliable batting all-rounder. He represented Pakistan in 287 ODIs, amassing 7,534 runs, including nine centuries, and took 158 wickets. As captain, he led the national side in 41 ODIs between 2007 and 2009.
He officially retired from one-day internationals following the 2019 ICC World Cup, but has remained a prominent figure in Pakistan’s cricketing circles, both on and off the field.
Dear Pakistan Cricket Family,
Two weeks ago, l informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of my decision to step down from my role as Domestic Cricket Mentor after much consideration and submitted my formal resignation in writing.
This was not an easy choice, but after reflecting on my commitments, I realized that juggling multiple responsibilities would prevent me from giving my best-both to Pakistan cricket and to my other professional and personal priorities. To ensure fairness to all, I believe this is the right time to transition.
I will fulfill my contractual obligations as planned, allowing the PCB ample time to appoint a new Mentor well ahead of the next season.
I am deeply grateful to PCB Chairman Mr. Mohsin Naqi, the PCB executive team, my former teammate and Director of Champions Events Wahab Riaz, my coaching staff at the Stallions, and, most importantly, the players who entrusted me with the opportunity to share my knowledge.
Working with some of Pakistan's most talented cricketers has been an immensely fulfilling experience, one I will always cherish.
I wish the PCB and everyone involved continued success. Cricket runs in my blood, and I remain committed to supporting Pakistan's cricketing future in any capacity I can.
With love and gratitude,
Shoaib Malik
