ECB vice-chairman Khalid Al Zarooni elected at Asian Cricket Council as vice president

Dubai: Emirates Cricket Board Vice-Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni has been elected Vice-President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), following the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 22.

Al Zarooni was elected unopposed during the meeting, which brought together representatives from all ACC member nations and covered a range of governance matters, including changes to the Executive Board, the rotation of the ACC Presidency and the establishment of several committees.

His appointment marks another significant step in the growing influence of the Emirates Cricket Board within Asian and international cricket.

Since taking on the role of ECB Vice-Chairman, Al Zarooni has been closely involved in the development of cricket in the UAE, with the country’s men’s, women’s and junior teams making significant progress on the regional stage and securing qualification for major ICC tournaments.

He has also played a central role in the development of the International League T20 (ILT20), serving as chairman of the competition.

Since its launch in 2022, the league has established itself as one of the leading T20 competitions globally, while providing a platform for UAE and Associate Member players to develop through opportunities created by partnerships across the region and internationally.

The UAE has increasingly become a major hub for international cricket, regularly hosting ICC and ACC events. The country will once again be at the centre of the cricketing calendar this week when the eight-team DP World Women’s Asia Cup gets underway at Dubai International Stadium.

Al Zarooni’s new position will see him contribute to the ACC’s work in promoting and developing cricket across Asia, a region that represents the sport’s largest and most passionate fanbase.

His election also further strengthens the UAE’s position within the wider cricketing landscape and reflects the Emirates Cricket Board’s growing role in the development of the game across the continent.
